Origin and tradition
The okonomiyaki It is a traditional Japanese dish with humble roots, originating in the region of Kansai (Especially in Osaka) and also very popular in Hiroshima.
His name literally means "Whatever you want on the grill" (okonomi= what you prefer, yaki = grilled), which reflects its versatility.
Its modern origin dates back to the post-war period in Japan, when the shortage of rice led many families to prepare cheap meals with flour, cabbage and other available ingredients.
This is how this kind of thick omelet was born, cooked on a griddle (teppan) and customisable with seafood, meat, cheese or even noodles.
Ingredients and preparation
The okonomiyaki It is a typical Japanese dish, similar to an omelet or salty pancake, also very popular in the markets of Thailand.
