Today we visited the impressive Khao Yai National Park, one of the largest and most spectacular natural areas in Thailand.

After paying the entrance fee, we arrived at the visitor center, the ideal starting point for the adventure. Here you'll find shops, restrooms, maps, and useful information before venturing into the jungle.

Khao Yai National Park was the Thailand's first national park, created in 1962.

It is part of the Dong Phayayen-Khao Yai protected forest complex, declared UNESCO World Heritage Site.

This park is a true natural paradise, home to:

• 🐘 Wild elephants
• 🐒 Gibbons
• 🦜 More than 300 species of birds
• 🐍 Reptiles and exotic fauna

If you love nature, this is one of the best places in Thailand to see it in its purest form.

Within the park you will find several hiking trails adapted to different levels.

We chose the Route 1, A perfect option for a family outing:

• 🟢 Distance: approximately 1.2 km
• ⏱️ Duration: about 45 minutes
• 📍 Starting point: near the visitor center
• 👍 Level: easy

It's the ideal way to have a first contact with the jungle without complications.

Other routes in Khao Yai National Park

If you have more time or are looking for something more adventurous, here are some other options:

• Route 2It connects several waterfalls; it's longer and very scenic.
• Route 3: reach an observation tower, ideal for seeing animals
• Route 5It goes deeper into the jungle, perfect for wildlife watching.
• Route 6The most demanding route, about 10 km and several hours of walking

Each route offers a different experience, from relaxed walks to authentic jungle adventures.

Even before entering the forest, we began to see wildlife. We encountered several birds calmly among the branches, as if welcoming us to the park.

During the route, we were lucky enough to see a kalao (hornbill), one of the most impressive birds in the jungle, easily recognizable by its large beak.

We also saw a lizard resting on a branch, completely calm and unafraid of our presence.

One of the park's strengths is its educational value.

Along the route you will find information signs that explain:

• 🌳 Types of trees
• 🌿 Local vegetation
• 🌱 Traditional uses of plants

For example, a very common plant in the area is used in the traditional medicine to treat minor wounds and cuts.

• 🕒 Go early to avoid the heat and see more animals
• 👟 Wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes
• 💧 Don't forget water
• 🦟 Use insect repellent
• 🚗 If you can, explore the park by car to visit more areas.

Khao Yai National Park is a must-see if you want to discover Thailand's wildest nature.

Whether you take a short route or venture on longer journeys, the experience is totally worth it.
